Kids Dentistry

We Love Kids! They Bring Joy And Sunshine Into Our Lives And We Want To Return The Favor. Dental Fears Often Happen Because Kids Don’t Have A Good Experience At The Dentist. Not Only Do We Want To Make Children Feel Comfortable, We Want Them To Actually Look Forward To Seeing The Dentist.

During the “growth” phase of a child, special approaches are needed to guide the dental growth and development in order to avoid future dental problems.

Restoration (Fillings)

Despite Parent’s Best Efforts To Promote Good Dental Health In Their Kids, Sometimes Tooth Decay Still Occurs. Cavities In Children Can Be Treated With Several Types Of Dental Restorations Depending On The Extent And Type Of Damage To The Tooth.

When bacteria in the mouth combines with sugars introduced through foods, they eat at the tooth enamel. The result, over time, is tooth decay, which begins as a tiny hole in the tooth surface called a cavity. When diagnosed early, cavities can be treated with a filling. A filling replaces the decayed portion of a tooth and prevents the cavity from growing.

Orthodontic Treatment

Although Your Child’s Teeth May Look Straight At First, There Could Potentially Be Underlying Problems With The Way Their Adult Teeth Will Erupt. A Misaligned Bite, A Bad Relationship Between The Upper And Lower Jaw, Unordinary Tooth Crowding, Or Problems Caused By Non-Nutritive Habits Can Lead To Major Orthodontic Issues After Your Child’s Baby Teeth Are Replaced By Their Adult Teeth.

At A little smile Dental Clinic, we can help identify these issues right away, ensuring that your child’s smile will be corrected by the time their adult teeth are fully developed!

Fluorides

Fluoride Is A Natural Mineral That Builds Strong Teeth And Prevents Cavities. It’s Been An Essential Oral Health Treatment For Decades. Fluoride Supports Healthy Tooth Enamel And Fights The Bacteria That Harm Teeth And Gums. Tooth Enamel Is The Outer Protective Layer Of Each Tooth.

Fluoride is especially helpful if you’re at high risk of developing dental caries, or cavities. Cavities occur when bacteria build up on teeth and gums and form a sticky layer of plaque. Plaque produces an acid that erodes teeth and gum tissue. If the plaque breaks down the enamel layer, bacteria can infect and harm the nerves and blood at the core of the tooth.

Root Canals

Root Canals Are Designed To Remove Bacteria And Dead Or Dying Tissue From Deep Inside The Tooth. The Affected Area Is Known As The “Tooth Pulp,” And It’s The Most Vital Part Of The Tooth. Originating In The Center Of The Tooth Beneath The Layer Of Enamel, The Tooth Pulp Is Comprised Of Living Items, Including Blood Vessels, Large Nerves, And Connective Tissue.

When the tooth pulp is infected, treatment is necessary otherwise, the tooth may have to be pulled. During a root canal, your dentist will use tiny tools to access the inside of the tooth, clean it and eventually place a crown over the top of the tooth.

Extractions

To Maintaining Your Natural Teeth Is Always Our Goal. However, There Are Some Cases In Which Your Natural Teeth Might Require Removal To Save The Surrounding Teeth, And Help You Achieve Optimum Oral Health. Tooth Extraction Is The Removal Of Your Tooth And Its Root. In All Cases, The Extraction Is Recommended When The Tooth Is Causing Or Will Cause Serious Issues For Your Healthy Teeth.

A tooth will be extracted for the following reasons:

  1. Excessive tooth decay
  2. Tooth infection
  3. Crowding
  4. To accommodate orthodontic treatment
  5. Impacted teeth in the case of wisdom teeth

Kids With Special Needs

Children With Disabilities Often Deal With Special Dental Problems. For Instance, They Are More Likely To Have Gum Disease Than Children Without Disabilities. They’re Also More Likely To Have Missing Teeth. Conditions That May Require Special Considerations In Providing Dental Care Include Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy, Seizure Disorders, Vision And Hearing Impairments, And Learning Disabilities.

Seek care from a pediatric dentist. Their training includes learning how to care for children with special needs. Don’t skip or put off dental visits because you’re concerned about how your child will act. Find a pediatric or general dentist that understands your child may need extra care.
